Cannabis Advocacy in 2022 and Beyond

Activism, Policy and Prohibition 2.0

Part of greenco's mission is to maximize the visibility of the cannabis community on the internet as we swiftly approach the end of prohibition. I say this partly in jest because cannabis is still very inconveniently federally illegal in the United States and almost entirely prohibited in 17 of those states. Canada and California, both with decades of illicit and gray market experience under their belts, are currently suffering Prohibition 2.0 as conflicting jurisdictions, legalities and logistics wreak havoc in the struggle to transition to an entirely regulated market. Legacy growers and medical program pioneers are being trampled by the green rush on several fronts yet their stories don't make the news unless they can afford to fight back.

Advocates We Love

Due to the continued condemnation of the plant, combined with draconian federal scheduling parameters and consequences, marijuana's digital representation is still in violation of the TOS of many platforms and therefore paid advertisement is being disallowed with broad, prejuducial strokes. I have personally had ads rejected and corresponding accounts shut down simply for trying to distribute my content and my services via the same ad channels easily accessed by any other marketing consultancy. I am forced to rely on organic search, shareable high-quality content and piggybacking on the efforts of folks with the resource of litigation at their disposal.  Even now in 2022, barriers still exist to the marketing of this website that I still can't officially launch as a division of my "normie" marketing agency because of the stigma still present in my recreationally illegal state.

Censorship still exists in so many forms that even the White House went so far as to announce that it is monitoring Facebook and asking people to submit their complaints directly to the administration via this form (since deactivated).   Luckily, there are some good people taking a stand against Facebook through legal channels, most recently a group of dispensary owners in Tulsa .

 Brother David's

Spearheaded by David Bronner, CEO of Dr. Bronner's soap company, Brother David's is a cannabis company pledged to dedicate its profits to charity. Branded as an alternative to the chemical and fossil-fuel intensive Big Ag model being adopted by many corporations in the cannabis industry, their Sun+Earth Certified program emphasizes earth care & cultivation, human empowerment and community engagement and certifies cannabis that was "grown under the sun, in the soil of mother earth, without chemicals by fairly-paid farmers."

All profits from Brother David's go toward protecting the land, lives, and communities of our cannabis family — promoting small-scale family farms practicing regenerative organic agriculture, and fighting a system that unjustly criminalizes cannabis.
